Yarn pirate weathering the storm

Despite my headache from hell and a cold, I finished the Primavera socks last night. Yay!

And today I went to Dortmund. In the rain. And I forgot to take an umbrella. -.- But I desperately needed new yarn, I knit about 3 or 4 rows of the damnable Q sock on the way there and it was horrible and they’re never gonna be finished. But at least I’m only really working on one sock at a time now, I suppose? And at least my feet were warm and snug in my Primaveras! The foot has stretched a bit now, like they always do, and I’m really glad I made the foot relatively short. It looks weird when they’re not being worn, but, you know.

So, anyway. I met a guy from the class under me, Markus Dell, who had some time left before the soccer game (uggh so many drunk soccer fans in the city :/) and came with me to buy some yarn. We talked mostly music and books on the way there and back, and I bought 200g of sock yarn for €9. Brown, tweedy yarn for Sammy’s Mojo socks, and red-pink yarn for the socks I gave my mom a voucher for on mother’s day.

I brought my bamboo DPNs for the way back (yay trains), and good thing I did! I hung out at the station for almost an hour cause the train I thought I’d take didn’t stop where I needed it to, and the train I could take came 45 minutes later. Except it had a 10 minute delay. -.- Ah, public transportation. But apart from the freezing cold I didn’t mind as much, since, you know. More time to knit.

I’m more than halfway done with the leg of the second Primavera. After those, I won’t be done with the pattern though – I gave my mom a voucher for a pair of socks in a pattern and with yarn she wants, and she requested a pair of Primavera in red. Which is alright, I might make the legs a little shorter (11 or 12 reps) or something, and make the ribbing slightly longer.

At the same time, I’m scrolling through my Ravelry Queue looking for something new to do. I discovered I have 26 adult sock patterns plus three baby sock patterns. *facepalm* And also I added the Hemlock Throw, which is amazing, but also uses 300g of yarn. Thick, though, on 6mm needles. I’d have to get a super long 6mm circ for that though. It looks like fun. Maybe when it’s not as warm – in the fall. As therapy for Uni starting, and as a housewarming gift to myself maybe? (at least the yarn)

Once I’m done with my oral exam, I’m planning on weighing, photographing and cataloging my stash on Ravelry. Long overdue, really. I like to be organized. I mean, the are sort of organized, in plastic bags according to yarn type (wool, cotton, sock, luxury), but, you know. It’d be nice to have a better overview.

Iiiiiiiii want ebony sock DPNs. Or KnitPicks Harmony. Sigh.

Ah, Summer!

The Primavera socks are coming along great. I’m a tad worried about whether I made the shaft too long, i.e. that the 100g won’t be enough. Which would be horrific, cause then I’d have to frog the whole foot and heel. Tragic. Speaking of heel, I did that in a simple slip stitch pattern (R1 sl1, k1; R2 k1 sl1) which shows the yarn off beautifully. I kind of wish I’d done the whole sock that way. But no way I’m frogging over 90 rows of leg plus the heel.

It’s another pretty public project. I’ve worked on it on the train, in the hospital (my grandmother got dizzy and in the wake of her recent surgery, she wanted to get checked through), and I’m taking it with me to my History class meetup tonight.

Yeah, it doesn’t really look like strawberries. But to me, it looks like tomatoes and mozzarella with basil – which is almost better.

Maybe these will even last me until the end of the month, when I’m very likely to go to Leipzig again. Maybe. Or I’ll have to find another project with money I don’t have to procrastinate on Q.

Oops. So my sister had me watch the first two episodes of Torchwood last night, and I figured I could occupy my hands winding the skein of Erdbeerbecher into a ball. (I tend to get twitchy when I watch TV and don’t have anything to do with my hands)

And then, I got my bamboo DPNs and started the Primavera. Oops?

Well, at least I’ll have something to calm myself with Tuesday, I suppose.

Where Am I?
